Good things

I am the second-to-last person in the country to see Brokeback Mountain, which I watched yesterday. (Second-to-last because Chris refused to watch it with me.) Hot dayum, but that was a good movie. It made me want to have an illicit gay love affair in the 60's. Or maybe just jump on top of Heath Ledger and never let him go. (That other guy does nothing for me, you can have him.) Except shit, I just goooooogled Heathey and he is 5 years younger than I am. Can I get a toy boy now that I'm a mom?

Also, The Ha-Ha by Dave King is the best book I have read in a long, long time. Granted, I have been reading pretty light stuff lately since I tend to make it through three pages and then collapse in exhaustion, but that does not diminish the fact that this is a fabulous book that you should all read. Or ideally, get Heath Ledger to read it to you, maybe while he rubs your feet.

I still haven't seen Brokeback Mountain either. It's on my Netflix list, but I keep seeing other movies coming out that I want to see first. Eventually.. eventually I'll get around to it. :) lol

I am impressed, watched a movie and got to read! Wow... Glad to hear that you are taking the Beth Fridays to heart. It is very important to take care of yourself when you are an SAHM.

Reading is such a luxury, right? I was the last person on earth to read Da Vinci code...

Well, I'm glad you don't want Jake, cause I'd like to have some of him :) That was a great movie!

I loved Brokeback. It was a great love story. Two people kept apart by circumstances beyond their control. It's a common theme, but it was done really well. Plus gorgeous scenery. And yes, Mr. Ledger, pretty damn hot. But I wouldn't toss Jake out of my bed, either.

I haven't seen it either. We thought about getting it on pay-per-view last night...but watched "Old School" on TBS.

Holy crap, that movie was funny.

I haven't seen the movie yet, either. I intend to do that, though, at some point before my life is over! Hell, I haven't even seen Braveheart yet. I have a lot of catching up to do!

I just watched Brokeback this morning! I agree, great movie. But even though I think Heath Ledger did a great acting job, he does nothing for me. Neither does greasy Gyllellahahehalal, either.

I haven't seen it either, mainly because my husband won't see it with me either. I keep meaning to rent it, but haven't had the chance.

I saw Brokeback in the theater with my step mom. We both really liked it and on the drive home she asked me all about Heath Ledger. He must of done something for her too. :)

Chris is a big ol' chicken. Bawk bawk bawk!

Great movie, and why can't you have a boy toy???

Thanks for the book recommendation!

Not the last...I still haven't seen it! I just don't seem to have the attention span I used to, and movies jsut don't cut it for me.

But I hear this one is good, so I may need to indulge!

Brokeback Mountain was the first theater movie I'd seen in years. I had to put my money where my mouth was after I'd written a Letter to the Editor protesting a possible boycott by the theater chain here. (That's the other side of granny you don't know so well).

One of the respondents referred to me as the "sophisticated and politically correct" Ann Adams. It was not intended as a compliment but I've decided to adopt it as my own.

Whatever their reason for the delay, they finally started showing it and I went with my two sons and my dil.

It was beautiful, I have the dvd, and hub and I will watch it at some point.

Nope, I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain either. The subject matter does nothing for me.I want to see a love story that I have some chance of actually participating in one day! ;~)
Reading? What's that? You think taking care of an 8 month old baby is tough work, try a grouchy husband recuperating from knee surgery!

I haven't seen Brokeback either but I have the read The Ha-Ha and I LOVED it. I am with you, this is the best book I have read for awhile.

No Brokeback for me yet either. Someday.

I just finsihed The Ha Ha as well. Wrote about it last week. Loved it as well.

I've read Annie Prolux's short story of Brokeback but still haven't seen it. I only saw Crash because our neighbors have Netflix and loaned it to us. The last movie I saw in the theater was Hostage, when I was pregnant. I'm at least a year behind on movies.

Then I must be the LAST person who hasn't seen Broke-Back Mountain. And, I know what you mean about reading these days. I've been reading The Da Vinci Code (I must be the second-to last-person to read that...and, I suppose, the last person to read it,too, at the rate I'm going). I've been reading it for, like, two months, and I'm only half way through....

Now, to be fair, my unwillingless to watch the movie has nothing to do with its inherent gayness. Historical stuff like that, particularly films that resemble westerns in any way, to nothing for me. I actually have a strong dislike for them.

We do agree, however, on The Ha-Ha. I believe I was the one who encouraged you to read it...

i am a LOSER who has not seen it, but i know we are crumbling and will probably buy it on PPV any day now...

jake doesn't look all that great in the movie, but otherwise i'll take him and let you have little heathy. ;)

haven't seen it. but i'm not in your country.

I haven't seen it either. And I want to, especially after reading this. ;)

I haven't seen Brokeback; it just doesn't appeal to me, and I'm not gonna force myself to watch something that makes me uncomfortable. I figure I'm entitled to my opinions so long as I'm not hateful to anyone about them.
As to the Ha-Ha, I looked, but my library doesn't seem to have it in stock. I may have to file a request to purchase!

I haven't seen it and I'm not sure I ever will, but you never know, I did just make it through Rent and there is lots and lots of gay stuff.

Just kidding, I'm not a homophobe, I'm a homo-romance-a-phobe.

But I will look into your book suggestion.

That's a coincedence, I saw Brokeback Mountain on the weekend too.
I really thought I would like it, but did'nt.
I thought there was a lot missing. There was not build up to the actual start of the relationship. I was missing that *thing* that pulls you in to the movie and makes you care about the characters. I wasn't feeling it, when I really expected I would.

Glad you like it though! That makes at least one of us that was't dissapointed! :-)

No idea how that happened! Sorry for the double comment! :-(

I'm surprised he refused to watch it with you. I liked the movie well enough but I wasn't as emotional at the end as people had projected. Not that that really means anything though. It's still a beautifully made film.

How ironic, I saw the movie in the theatre and loved it. My boyfriend watched it with me this weekend and liked it as well. Although he did admit he had to overlook the scene close to the beginning. I still say its a wonderful movie though!

i agree - heath, yummy; jake, not doin' it for me, gay love in the 60s was never so appealing, younger men as boytoys are okay, and heath could read me pretty much anything as long as he was rubbing my feet. or sucking on my toes.

...ummm, forget that last part, okay ;)

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who has yet to see Brokeback Mountain! I'm not sure why either, it has been sitting on my coffee for a while now...
