What? What? Yes, I know I haven't posted in three days, but what do you people want from me? I'm obviously not dead, and you know that I have to dedicate every last bit of my energy to selling my house. I mean, not that there's anything I can do about selling my house at this point, but it takes a lot of energy to obsess about it constantly. On top of that, there are huge steaming piles of things I can't talk to you about, mainly because we feel like in the case of buying and selling houses it pays to be a bit circumspect until all the final paperwork is signed, and, well, the old blog gets a little neglected, so suck it.
Add in the two open houses we have this week, because my realtor apparently hates me, and the home inspection for the new place, and the three lunch dates we've been forced to attend practically at gunpoint (or, you know, casually invited to attend) (and I think Sarah got a picture of Mia with a finger up her nose and trying to steal Ian's pizza, so you should go make her post that) (also, I'm not busy tomorrow, anybody want to have lunch?) and the fact that Mia has recently discovered the joys of coloring on the walls, and the cabinets, and the floor, and you can see, once again, that I'm a little busy.
All of that aside, I'm cutting all my hair off on Tuesday. And yes, I mean all, at least 10 inches and possibly more. So, um, would somebody send me a new hairdo, please? Because god knows I can't make these decisions on my own, that's how I ended up with two feet of ratty hair that I can never manage to even brush, much less cajole into anything resembling a "style." My follicular future is in your hands. And my sanity is already walking the razor's edge, so I hope you take this assignment very seriously.

A bob is functional and fashionable. Think Vidal Sassoon, slightly longer in front. Start short, just under the ears, maybe? It feels so good!

No need to explain yourself, especially to me. This too shall pass, even if it seems like years away, life will resume some sort of normalcy. I'll let you know when mine does. Buy some Mr. Clean magic Erasers...

Take all the time you need. We'll still be here :D
Be sure to provide us with photos of your new 'do.

I DID get pictures of both of those things which I will post shortly.
Also, I had strange foreshadowing when I thought I saw you at the mall today (before you actually arrived) but it was a woman with much shorter hair.
Creepy.

You posted a picture of yourself with short hair once and I thought it was totally cute. And that's about all the help I'm going to be because my daughter just figured out how to outsmart the child-proof cabinet locks. Excuse me...

My 3 year old son constantly told me I needed a "hairstyle" because I always had it in a pony tail. I got it cut into an adorable thing that only my haircut girl could style. It is now growing out a bit and looks ok when I do it, but I am not going to suggest anything for you other than make sure you do locks of love please.
I can't wait to see your new do!

Hey! I chopped off 11" last weekend and donated it to Locks of Love. I feel really good about the donation; not so good about the new 'do! Everyone says it looks good, even my friend whom I expected to say it looked awful, but still...gonna take some getting used to. If you want low maintenance, go for a bob, with or without some side-swept bangs. Skip the choppy layered ends unless you are talented with a round brush, curling iron and not averse to goop in your hair.

So tomorrow for lunch won't work. But what about in September, since you know, we'll be in town then.
New hair? I suggest "long layers". I just got some last week and HELLO, they are awesome and I am kicking myself for not getting them months and months ago.
So that's my recommendation. Good luck!

Don't do it! I did and regretted it for 20 years. Only now am I growing it out.

I see someone else already mentioned Locks of Love. Just want to second that.
And I'm good for lunch tomorrow. If I start traveling now, I think I can make it.

Shortish hair ROX. See: Katie Holmes' new look.
You can totally pull it off.

why not go for the Cruise Family Bob? It seems to be kicking ass for Katie, Tom and Suri, so I'm guessing it would work on just about anyone.

if you're going to really be chopping off 10 inches - I suggest donating it to locks of love.

I just had mine cut off yesterday (over seven inches of it). I got a bob - shorter in the back. Looks and feels good. Although be careful of the morning after with the shampoo. I got a little heavy handed this morning forgetting I didn't need as much. Good luck!!

I adore inverted bobs, their hot hot hot, and people always want to run their hands up em.... the hot ones I mean.
glad your back...

I'm the worst person to ask. I just cut it short enough to shake my head in the morning and be set for the day.
That may be a little more extreme than what you had in mind.
Never fear; we'll be hanging out waiting for you.
Have a good weekend if possible.

Well, my bob idea has been taken, so I just wholeheartedly second it. If it looks good on you, (which - how can it not?) maybe I will attempt.
Go for it!

Have you seen Katie Holmes new hairdo? Totally cute and seems easy to style. It's like a hip, messy bob. Bet it'd look great on you. Whatever it is you decide to do, POST PICTURES!!

All caught up now!
Woo hoo about the house and the Mia Bean talking!

No good ever came from cutting one's hair short. Ask any guy. ;-) Lunch? Old Dominion Pub? No beer festival this year. I'm so disappointed.

When I met you, I was surprised with the length of your hair! It is really long and gorgeous. I am not a fan of a bob hair cut. But don't take my hair advise, my hair looks like road kill.
Be sure to post pictures of your new look! :)
I'd like to go to lunch! Why don't you hop on a plane and we'll have lunch in Amsterdam.

I want to give you a picture, but I think your hair stylist know better what suits you.
Hi mia.., what are you doing now?

Isn't it funny how so many of us with almost two year olds are realizing that long hair isn't that great anymore if we just have it in a ponytail for years at a time, but I'm scared so somebody just pick out a cut already? I personally cut off over 12 inches last month and the key was to find a hair magician who I gave carte blanche to "make me look good and make it easy to do...STAT!" and she did, though the pics on my site look like crap, I assure you it is WAY better than the ponytail and could this comment be longer than your post? Good Luck!

The hair?
Have it cut layers, keep it shoulder length.
Most days it'll be a simple brush and go, and you'll still look great.

I have no good advice - I'm about to get my hair cut, too. Mine is far too long - it takes FOREVER to dry, and totally hits me mid-boob - not good for breastfeeding. I'm planning on cutting it off at shoulder length, that way I still feel like I have long hair and can rock a ponytail, but it will be more manageable. But the Katie Holmes bob is very cute. I can't wait to see what YOU choose!

If you're seriously cutting off at least 10 inches, you should donate it to one of those cancer organizations that make wigs for patients. Really. Locks of Love?
Posted by ewe_are_here | July 2, 2007 7:58 AM
Please, please don't do it. I cut about six inches off into a choppy bob at the beginning of April, and I'm still sobbing over its loss. Hubby is sobbing harder.
Posted by Therese | July 2, 2007 1:44 PM
I was going to say Locks of Love but about 50 people beat me to it. My hair is up to my neck and I get twitchy when it hits my shoulders, so I can't hold your hand through the cutting - but at least a poor little cancer kid would benefit from your pain!
And as for the move, I *do* feel that pain. It sucks ass... but this too will pass. Calm blue ocean. Calm blue ocean....
