On Friday afternoon, I heard the unmistakable sound of "Turkey in the Straw" being tinnily piped through the neighborhood. And since Owen was fed and Chris was home to watch him, I slammed Mia into her shoes and we took off running down the street for her first introduction to the ice cream man. It took her about 10 minutes to select her treat, and sadly it turns out that she doesn't much care for fudgesicles, but all things considered still an enjoyable experience.
(Looks a little like she's flippin' us the bird in that first shot, now don't it?)

Wow, I don't think I've every been your first commenter! What adorable pictures of Mia's first ice cream man experience. I also heard the first sounds of the ice cream man yesterday, but did not have a child to take with me, so I thought I'd look kind of silly chasing after him. :-) Isn't it fun to have a reason to relive childhood memories and pass them on to your kids?

Those are especially fantastic pics this Monday. The first one totally looks like she's flippin' you off. Dang it, woman! She wanted a push up, not a fudgesicle. That's the one thing our neighborhood is missing, and ice cream man. : )

Ooh... the ice cream man! Bomb pops were always my treat of choice, although I wouldn't turn away a fudgesicle. Did you get anything?

The ice cream man! What a fun childhood memory relived! And a happy kid there!
I was a push-up and snow cone girl. Still am, I suppose.

Hee. I tell Helena it's a "music truck" so that I won't have to fight with her three times a day when we hear it tramping down the street. The day she learns there's ice-cream inside the Music Truck, I'll have to lock her in the basement.

Shit. Now I totally want a fudgesicle.

Those are just adorable. I can't believe how much she has grown. She is becoming a little lady now!

The ice cream truck in our neighborhood looks really shady. Even if it weren't icky, though, Pi doesn't like ice cream. She does, however, like Mia's Annie and June shirt. I know this because Piper has one just like it and she loves it.

Ah, the ice cream van. I have no idea what "Turkey in the straw" sounds like, because the van in the village I grew up in played the funeral march. Seriously. "Dum Dum Dum-Dum, Dum de Dum de Dum Dum Dum!" It's a miracle I am as well adjusted as I am.

She is getting so big! The fudgecicle looks quite nice, too!

What great pictures!
I've never bought ice cream from a truck before- they're illegal in my area! Apparently, a child was struck and killed by one in the 60's and moving food vendors have been outlawed ever since.
Sometimes I wish I could take my kids and chase down an ice cream truck, though- what a great childhood memory to have!

I so think she could be the star of a tofutti cuties ad... that and I might have to introduce her to my love of push pops :)

She is totally cute, but ice cream trucks weird me out...there is something Stephen Kingy-Creepy about them. Maybe because I grew up in the country sans ice cream trucks and only saw the likes of them in movies. Stephen King movies apparently, though I can't really remember a specific one?
I always picture the one that comes through our neighborhood rounding the corner and discovering THERE IS NO DRIVER.

I tell Addy it's the gypsies. I don't have the strength to fight with her every day if she were to find out that there was ice cream outside just waiting for her.

She's sayin - "Screw ya'll, my tongue's not getting stick on this!! Dare me?? Daaaaare me?"

Mia is adorable as usual.
I once had a neighbor who called the cops on Mr. Softee because he was playing his music after 10:00 p.m.
