Largest living land mammal
If Mia gets any more teeth I'm going to be too fat for all my pants. Oh yes, there is a connection. Mia has two molars coming in, and apparently, they hurt. (Please please pretty please save me your teething pain relief tips because I have tried every last one of them and nothing works.) Sometimes, such as when we went to lunch on Wednesday with Corinne and Shepherd, or today when we went to lunch with my friends A and B (hi, guys, here's an internet shout-out just for you) she has been lovely and charming and giggling. Other times, such as every second of every day that we were not out to lunch, she has been screaming. She screams if I put her down, she screams if I pick her up. She screams if I feed her, she screams if I take the cheerios away. She screams if I take her outside, she screams if I take her inside. She screams if oh you get the idea.
She screams in her sleep. It takes at least an hour to get her down for a nap, and in the 20 minutes of silence before the screaming starts again, I eat. She's been asleep for about 15 minutes right now, and I have already eaten leftover french fries from lunch and a chocolate ice cream cone. As soon as Chris gets home, I'm going out for cookies. I'm not usually a stress eater, so this is new to me. I am, however, a stress smoker. I am also bound and determined that I am finally, at great long last, with no cheating of any sort for any reason even when entirely blotto drunk or stressed to the point that my head is about to pop right off my neck, a non-smoker.
And so, I'm eating. And eating. And eating. And I swear I'm gonna stop, just as soon as I make it through those cookies.
Posted by Beth at July 28, 2006 02:53 PMIts a difficult thing... I eat instead of smoking myself. Beaux has screamed all week due to some crazy virus that apparently just gives low grade fever and grouchiness. It gives me a pain in my neck.
Posted by: R*belle at July 28, 2006 03:18 PMI hate it for you .Some kids are awful when teething.
Caleb got all 16 of his baby teeth within a few months. Seriously. He got his first tooth around the 8th month... by a year old he had 16!! that includes all 4 molars.
Funny thing is he was a gem.. and never really acted up.
I did let him munch on FROZEN waffles though (ego's)... and this seemed to help with some soreness. Plus the pockets in the waffles would catch all his slobber.
I'm sure you wont let yourself go during this time tho :-) it passes rather quickly.
Posted by: Andrea at July 28, 2006 03:32 PMI'm a stress smoker too. Too bad that I'm also an non-smoker.
Posted by: Katy at July 28, 2006 03:33 PMI HATE the teething. Peanut is just like that. Screams if you pick him up, but screams just as loud if you put him down. I've been going random places everyday to keep his attention on other things. I'm tired though. I'd rather stay home and take a nap. You're further along than we are too, Peanut only has the bottom two. I pray he gets them all fast so we can be done in a few months. A girl can dream can't she?
Posted by: Mutt at July 28, 2006 03:47 PMBetter to be an eater than a smoker. I quit 5 1/2 years ago and I only recently felt the urge. But I had decided I would never do it again so...pass the chocolate.
Posted by: Maribeth at July 28, 2006 04:09 PMThere is absolutely nothing more stressful (to me anyway) than the nonstop screaming/whining of a baby. I feel your pain. Keep the low cal stuff stocked!
Posted by: mamacita tina at July 28, 2006 04:25 PMI consider myself a former smoker, but I will occasionally have a cigarette after I've had a few drinks. At my new job they asked me if I had smoked any cigarettes within the past year. I told them the truth because I was getting ready to take a drug test and urine doesn't lie. I later noticed on my personal information that they had me listed as a smoker - so not cool! I asked them to remove it immediately, which luckily they did. Ugh!
Sorry to hear Mia is suffering with those teeth. Hope they come in soon!

Try infant tylenol or advil at night. I found it gave my kiddo a longer stretch of sleep.
It sucks! As quickly as it came on, it will disappear. But, there's nothing worse than listening to your baby scream. My four year old was sick with a little fever and cold and I was a stressball! This soon will pass. And ice cream DOES help. Really.
Posted by: Sharri at July 28, 2006 07:08 PMTry a little Infant's Motrin before bed? I dunno, I just eat all freaking day long these days and I am so depressed about it. I hate food. I love cigarettes. Haven't had one since right before I conceived Maddie and I still crave them. Blah.
Posted by: JuJuBee at July 28, 2006 09:29 PMEh, you're still nursing, right? All those extra calories are all for Mia anyway! At least, that's the reasoning I used to use....

Posted by: Heather at July 28, 2006 10:38 PMSweet Jesus, teething is the worst. Apparently they are good for something, and I tell Lady this each time we go through another round of the gum pain from hell, but I'm beginning to wonder if that's like being told that rain on your wedding day means good luck? Maybe she's actually crying because she wants me to stop telling her how usefu isl all of the flaming pain?
Food for thought (no pun intended on the stress eating issue).

Posted by: chatty cricket at July 29, 2006 06:49 PMps, and I know how to only post once (but chose to post twice) AND I know how to spell.
Posted by: chatty cricket at July 29, 2006 06:50 PMIf you smoke and you stop smoking, you will always be an ex-smoker.
After 10 years of puffing and 3.5 since quitting, this label (for me) is the only way to describe how cigarettes become ingrained in your life, and what an impact they have even after you quit.
Goo luck. It was the hardest thing (even harder than childbirth) I've ever done in my life.

ps -- Mia is DARLING. I drop by everyday just to peek at her and smile.
what you REALLY need is vodka.
Posted by: Pamalamadingdong at July 30, 2006 09:54 PMOh, yeah, teething is a bear. I still get twitchy, thinking about it.
Posted by: Kate the Shrew at July 31, 2006 11:20 AMsuckers....get thee some suckers! they're sweet and as long as you don't bite them, they last a bit longer than ice cream and cookies (and tootsie rolls have the great chocolate center!)
Posted by: nikki at July 31, 2006 11:29 AMI hear you, Beth....Loud and clear...(and through the screaming...). Hang in there. It'll pass, and you could afford to gain a few anyway! ;)
